Buddy Christmas Activity

On Wednesday Week 9, Room 27 joined our Room 7 buddies for the last time this year. Room 27 guided and assisted Room 7 to create a giant Christmas paper chain to decorate our classrooms. Room 27 also decorated a Christmas stocking with their buddies to hang around the classroom. Both classes had been looking forward to it all term. On behalf of Room 27, we would like to thank Room 7 for being a wonderful buddy class.

Super Scientist

Congratulations to Jana and Charlotte for doing a fantastic job representing Room 27 in the Year 4 Super Scientist. You both presented your topics with confidence, a great depth of knowledge and enthusiasm. Well done!

Room 27 Class Party

On Wednesday 18^th of December, Room 27 will be having a class party to celebrate an incredible year. We kindly ask for your assistance in providing a small plate of food for the class party.

As a class, we decided the easiest way to organise who would bring what food, would be to suggest that girls bring in savoury items and boys bring in sweet items. If need be, we can make adjustments. We are able to heat food in an oven, if required.

We do have a nut allergy in our class so if anyone is able to provide nut free food please let Miss McKercher or Ms Martin know. 

There will be a list up on the whiteboard to write which food each student is providing so we don’t have five plates of the same food. Teachers will be providing drinks.

Literacy Pro Award

Congratulations to Sienna-Rose on being awarded the most improved lexile growth in Room 27. Keep up the fantastic work, Sienna-Rose!

Super Scientist Competition

It is that time of the semester again! Super Scientist is back and it is time to start preparing. The students are asked to present a science concept through the use of PowerPoint or a poster/chart. They can choose any science concept they wish and we ask that they show their interest in that topic by demonstrating a clear understanding and depth of their chosen topic. The presentation must be no longer than five minutes and no shorter than two minutes. Students will also be assessed on their speaking skills, such as eye contact, body language and voice projection.

There is a timetable provided under the Motivational Work for Term Four. All students will be presenting in Week Five.  From there, a finalist for to represent all Year 4 students will be chosen. We are very excited to see what the students will deliver. 

Student Fete

Congratulations to the students of Room 27 on such a successful student fete. We sold all 80 hacky sacks within the first twenty minutes and our remaining icy poles twenty minutes later. We are very proud of the fantastic job the students did advertising our stall, serving our long line of customers, setting up and decorating our stall, and packing it all away. We made an awesome profit of $103.20! Well done, Room 27!

Learning Journeys

Thank you to all the parents, family members and friends who attended Room 27’s Learning Journey. It was wonderful to see the excitement on the students’ faces when you all arrived, and they were able to show you how their fairground ride spun around.

Thank you to our parent helpers who came in to help students create their fairground ride. Also, thank you to parents for providing your child with the necessary materials and tools for them to build their projects. Your support and assistance are greatly appreciated.

Design and Technologies – Fairground Rides

For Design and Technologies this term, we have been learning about fairgrounds rides and how they use the belt pulley system to rotate. Over the term, students have carefully planned and designed their fairground ride. On Monday of Week 8, Sept 9, students will be constructing their fairground ride. This week students were sent home with an individual list of materials and tools they require to build their fairground ride. We kindly ask that parents provide students with these or similar materials and tools, so they are able to build their project.

Cross Country

We could not be prouder of the outstanding effort the students put into running the Cross-Country on Monday. Congratulations to Ayden for placing 1st and Charlotte for placing 4th in the Intermediate race. You all should be extremely proud of yourselves for giving it your best.

Semester Two Student Councillors

Congratulations to our new Student Councillors for Semester Two. We have no doubt you will take on the responsibility of Student Councillor with enthusiasm, respect and dedication. We are grateful to have you represent Room 27.

Poetry Recital

Dear Parents,

In Week 4, the Year Four children are asked to recite a poem to their peers. This could be a poem they have written themselves. It would be good if the student could recite the poem from memory. The timetable for the Room 27 poetry recital in week 4 is below:

In Week 4, students will ONLY have SPELLING homework to complete so they can rehearse their poem. There is NO Maths or Reading homework.

Each recital should be no longer than 2 minutes. Children will need to focus on their voice and expression, movement, action and enthusiasm. Props and sound effects can also be used.

Each class will select their top two finalists and they will move forward to the Year Level Challenge in Week 5. The overall Year Four winner will recite their poem at the Book Week Parade in Week 6.

NAIDOC Week

In Week 2, Wattle Grove Primary School celebrated NAIDOC Week. In Room 27, we completed a few tasks and activities to celebrate, learn and understand the importance of NAIDOC Week. On Monday, we researched a significant Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person using the laptops and we displayed our research on a Word Document. On Tuesday, each group were provided with a different NAIDOC themed book and students completed a Book Review on their book. On Wednesday, we met with our Buddies, Room 7, where we painted a boomerang and created a crepe paper Aboriginal flag. Room 27 did a fantastic job of guiding our Pre-primary and Year 1 buddies to use their fine motor skills to tear and scrunch up the crepe paper to decorate their Aboriginal flags. Well done Room 27!

NAIDOC Week from KirstyMcKercher

Happy Holidays

It is hard to believe another term has come and gone. We would like to congratulate the students of Room 27 for all of their hard work and dedication they have shown to their learning this term. Thank you also to all of the parents and caregivers for supporting your child with their learning tasks. In recognition of our busy term, below are some of the fantastic events as written by students of Room 27. Have a safe and happy break and we will see you all back in Term Three!

Room 27's Awesome Assembly

In Week 5 Room 27 and Room 12 conducted the assembly. It was great fun performing! We got the song and took it home to practise. It was called ‘Eye of the Driver.’ It took me a few days to learn the song and we had actions to go with the lyrics. Finally, the day had come to perform our amazing song. I was a bit nervous but when I sang the song it ended up being great fun! Some people got to speak about road safety into the microphone. We all wore bright coloured clothing, which meant that drivers could see us and we even had some students riding safely on their scooters across the middle of the assembly area! It was an awesome time.

RAC Incursion

It was awesome to learn more about road safety on Thursday of Week 7. Room 27 loved the RAC incursion and the person that was telling us about it all was Brandon, he was an RAC employee. He even let us try and see what it was like to drive a car and be a distracting passenger. He showed us the need for wearing a seatbelt and the result of not wearing one! Brandon also showed us a video of a truck rolling down a humungous hill. It had fake people called ‘Crash Test Dummies’. The driver had his seatbelt on but the passenger did not and the results were deadly. Brandon gave us all a certificate for participating and a bag tag that lights up when car lights shine on them so that drivers can see people walking or riding at night.

Constable Care Incursion

On Monday Week 7, Room 27 went on a fun and educational incursion for Constable Care. There were two people who ran the show, their names were Luke and Dawson. Dawson was having some trouble with a guy named ‘Skater Dan’. Dawson’s friend, Luke, was concerned that Dawson was acting really down and upset. So Luke helped Dawson and they told his Mum. I learnt that there are ways to block people on your online games and to never chat to a stranger online.

Superb Super Scientist

In Week 6 Room 27 held the Super Scientist competition. There were lots of epic experiments! My favourite mind-blowing experiment was Waterproof Sand by Gazal. My science experiment was Magic Milk. I was very eager to try it out. First, you pour milk into a plastic plate and then put food colouring into the plate. After this, get some dish soap and drop into the milk and then….ZOOM! The milk runs away from the dish soap! This happens because the proteins in the milk reacts to the oil in the dish soap.

Week 8 - Fremantle Excursion

On Wednesday 19th of June, Room 27 embarked on an exciting excursion to Fremantle. Our first stop was the Fremantle Prison, where students saw first-hand where convicts served their sentences. After an informative tour, we made our way down the road to Cicerello’s, where students were provided with a variety of sea creatures to hold and examine. Students then participated in a sand combing activity on Bathers Beach, where they searched the sand for any interesting shells, coral or cuttlebone. After this, we were treated to a delicious fish and chips lunch catered by Cicerello’s. Our next stop was the Round House to listen to the cannon being fired at 1pm. The final stop of the day was the WA Shipwrecks Museum. Students explored all the fascinating artefacts on display including one-seventh of a restored ship. Overall, we had an awesome day learning about the history of our state. We would like to extend a very special thank you to the parent volunteers and education assistants for accompanying us on our excursion.

Design and Technologies

In Week 5, students created their 3D house model, which was designed with the intention of withstanding similar conditions of an allocated natural disaster. There were three natural disasters; cyclone, tsunami and floods, which were imitated using buckets of water, a watering can and a fan. After testing their house against these similar conditions, students evaluated their design by analysing the effectiveness of the chosen materials.

During the creating stage, it was great to see students using their creative thinking skills to change or add materials to their house as they realised it could be improved. Students were really engaged and enjoyed this project as they learnt about the properties of materials through a hands-on experience.

Design and Technologies

In Terms 1 and 2, we have been learning about how houses are built to withstand different natural disasters. This week students were asked to research, plan and design a house, which could withstand the effects of a natural disaster allocated each student.

On Monday the 27^thMay, students will be constructing this house. This week students were sent home with an individual list of materials and tools they require to build their house. I kindly ask that parents provide students with these or similar materials and tools, so they are able to build their house.

Super Scientist!

In more exciting news, the Super Scientist competition is back! For any of our new parents or students to the school, this is an opportunity for students to explore, investigate, create and deliver a short presentation on a Science based concept. All students from Year 1 – 6 are expected to participate. Miss McKercher and Miss Martin ask that all students individually investigate and prepare a Science concept at home and then present it in front of their peers. This will need to be ready to go for Week 6. We will post a timetable in the coming days. We are excited to see what our budding scientists come up with!

Assembly Information

Room 27 and Room 12 will be hosting the assembly in Week 5, 31st May. Our theme is Road Safety and we ask all students to come to school on that day dressed in brightly coloured clothing. This can include socks and bright hair accessories as it is a special occasion, however, all students will need to bring their normal school uniform to change into after the assembly. A handful of students have been asked to bring in their helmet and a scooter. If this is the case, Miss McKercher or Miss Martin will notify you personally. These items will be locked away in the bike racks as per normal after the assembly. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us. The assembly will start promptly at 8.45am, we hope you can make it!

Greetings from Miss Martin!

A warm hello to all parents, caregivers and students from Room 27. If you have not already popped in to the classroom this term please let me introduce myself as Miss Martin. I will be the classroom teacher on a Thursday and Friday for the remainder of the year. I have recently returned from Maternity Leave and have had a wonderful start to the term with the children. This year I will be covering the following areas during my two days: Measurement and Geometry (Mathematics), Writing, Health and Science. I have been extremely impressed at how smoothly Room 27 has been running and look forward to working with you, the students and Miss McKercher.
