Design and Technologies

In Week 5, students created their 3D house model, which was designed with the intention of withstanding similar conditions of an allocated natural disaster. There were three natural disasters; cyclone, tsunami and floods, which were imitated using buckets of water, a watering can and a fan. After testing their house against these similar conditions, students evaluated their design by analysing the effectiveness of the chosen materials.

During the creating stage, it was great to see students using their creative thinking skills to change or add materials to their house as they realised it could be improved. Students were really engaged and enjoyed this project as they learnt about the properties of materials through a hands-on experience.

Thank you to the parent helpers who came in to help students create and test their house. Also, thank you to parents for providing your child with the necessary materials and tools for them to build their house. Your support and assistance are greatly appreciated.
